Round Lake Christian Camp

Abandoned pickup truck, May 15, 2004

Christian Camp is one of numerous areas in the B&B Complex leased by the Forest Service to religious groups and other organizations. The camp, which had an older building and a newly built lodge before the fire, is located on the northwestern side of Round Lake. The fire burned very intensely through this area, as can be seen in the photo of the truck above. This truck and a car were severely burned, but may have been abandoned prior to the fire. We documented more damage to human structures and vehicles caused by the B&B Fires in Christian Camp than in any other location.

The older building was burned down to its foundation. There were piles of cups, silverware, and other odds and ends that survived the fire laying in the ashes during our first visit, in May. A propane tank may have been empty before it was burned. The new lodge, a short distance away from the ashes, entirely escaped the fire. Whether this was the result of human action or fortuitous wildfire behavior is unknown. On our return in September, the area had beenfenced and gated.
